Design Your Time: How To Create The “Ideal Week”

Ever feel like your week just happens to you?

Flip the script by creating your Ideal Week—a schedule that actually aligns with the life you want.

Our brains love structure, but they also thrive on autonomy. By proactively shaping our week, we take control of our time instead of letting it control us.

How to do it:

  1. Visualize your perfect week—work, fun, rest, everything.

  2. List & prioritize what truly matters.

  3. Design your schedule (Google Calendar is your friend).

  4. Compare & tweak—what needs to change?

  5. Implement step by step, not all at once.

  6. Review & refine weekly—keep adjusting.

This isn’t just time management—it’s life design. The best part? Once you start living by design, every week feels more like your week.

Don’t Cheap Out On These Things…

Some of the best advice found on the internet can be hidden deep within the comment section.

Like this tweet 12 replies down from a thread asking about life hacks…

Which reminds me of a saying I heard a very long time ago that goes something like this: “Don’t cheap out on a bed or shoes cause if you’re not on one, you’re in the other”.

Stop Spending With The 72 Hour Rule

Your brain is wired for instant gratification.

When you see something you want, your dopamine levels spike, making you feel excited and convinced you need it.

But here’s the catch: that dopamine rush fades over time…

Waiting 72 hours allows your emotions to settle and return to the baseline (right side of the chart above), giving your logical brain time to evaluate whether the purchase is actually worth it.

Think of it like grocery shopping when you're hungry—you’ll grab everything in sight.

But if you eat first and go back later, you’ll make smarter choices.

The same goes for shopping. When you wait three days, you’ll realize that:

  1. The thrill was temporary.

  2. You totally forgot about it.

  3. You found a better way to spend that money (or save it!).

Try it next time you're about to impulse-buy those $300 sneakers or the latest gadget. Your wallet (and Future You) will thank you!
